On April 26, 2020, my dad, Scott Devanny, was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. Over the course of 6 months (during a global pandemic), my dad went through chemo and radiation and underwent a 9+ hour esophagectomy. Thanks to the help of some incredible doctors in Annapolis and at Johns Hopkins, my dad was cured of cancer and remained in remission for over four years before he passed in October 2024 from a heart event.
In honor of my dad, I will be participating in the Salgi Foundation's Virtual Esophageal Cancer Walk on June 7 for the 7th time. All money raised will go directly towards Salgi's efforts to raise awareness, promote early detection, and fund research of esophageal cancer in hopes of a cure. It's a cause my dad cared greatly about, and I thank you in advance for your support!
